CITY CHIC LOFT

A Fashion Inspired Home – By Lee Industries

Judging by Helen Harbin Davis’s city chic loft, which she believes to be very telling of her own personal style, we think she just might be the most stylish and trend savvy person ever. A former fashion mogul, Helen of Hand H Home takes cues from the ever evolving fashion industry when it comes to her decorating style and design skills. Feeling inspired by the overall masculinity of her loft, and elements such as exposed brick and ceiling pipes, she chose to incorporate black into the space for two reasons: black fits the darker and more masculine side of the space, and just like in fashion, black is also a classic when it comes to interior design. Davis firmly believes that “you never get tired of black;” however, she is also an advocate of rich colors, as is made evident by the accessories used throughout the space. One of her favorite pieces is also one of the most colorful: her Andy Warhol “Shoes” print. Representative of all of her time spent working in the NYC fashion world, it was one of the first things she purchased upon moving back to Atlanta.

Helen’s main challenge in designing the space was the size constraints. With only 1000 sq feet of open floorplan to work with, she had to be very strategic in her placement of items – but we think she managed to get it just right. Elegant, design savvy, and fashion forward, this chic loft claims the perfect balance between playful and professional. Mix It Up
Helen believes that the best way to create layers and interest in a space is to mix various pieces of high and low, expensive and not expensive. While she may have items like Warhol prints, she also indulges in antiques and flea market finds to add a unique element to her space. Look for unexpected pieces that spark your interest in places such as vintage shops; you might just find the perfect upcycle for your space!

“WHEN I WORKED IN FASHION, THE PEOPLE I LOOKED UP TO MIXED HIGH AND LOW—EXPENSIVE AND NOT EXPENSIVE…AND THEY WORE THINGS THAT WERE PERSONAL, THAT TELL A STORY.”
